All of us at LATAMPLAGAS want to remember Dr Ted Granovsky with great affection — the “gringo from Yankeeland”, as he called himself. Ted set off on a new course this past May. Passionate about insects and about rational approaches to pest population management, he was a pioneer in South America, demonstrating and spreading the foundations of integrated pest management. His IPM jigsaw puzzle travelled with him to every country he visited, and it was without doubt a wonderfully didactic way of conveying to us how important it is to integrate non-chemical actions in order to achieve better results. A lover of boric acid and of ants, he studied the behaviour and the needs of insects in general in great depth. He was a warm, endearing and very funny man. A professional of the highest calibre. We will certainly miss him a great deal, but his legacy and his teaching live on in every one of us who had the chance to enjoy his company. Farewell, Ted.
