EXPOPRAG 2018: the largest urban vector and pest control event in Latin America

EXPOPRAG, the largest urban vector and pest control event in Latin America, takes place in August in São Paulo, Brazil. The event will be held at the Frei Caneca Convention Center, in São Paulo, from August 29 to 31, and will bring the main news in the sector.
The largest meeting in Latin America focused on the control chain of vectors and urban pests, EXPOPRAG reaches its 12th edition in 2018. Held every two years by the Association of Vector and Urban Pest Management Professionals, APRAG, the event takes place in an environment that unites congress, fair, technical courses, conferences and debates.
That year, it was estimated that 2,500 people would visit the three days of the fair, which would have exhibitors of the most varied profiles, manufacturers of products, equipment, service providers, software, class councils and the main distributors of products and equipment in the sector. Admission was free.
Already for the congress, the participation of 600 professionals was expected, who are mainly seeking information and knowledge about the best market practices, improving the provision of services and establishing network with the other agents in the area. To encourage the coming of Latin American participants, the organization guaranteed the simultaneous translation service and offered special conditions by providing access to all days of the congress for just $100.
Marcos Gennaro, president of APRAG, reported that the EXPOPRAG space increased more than 40 percent compared to the last edition held in 2016, in the city of Campos do Jordão. "We went from 3,500 m² to 5,000 m². With that, we managed to expand the number of rooms for technical courses and also attract a greater number of exhibitors interested in presenting their new products. Today we are the second largest fair in the sector in the world, moving a large volume of business," he added.
According to the coordinator of EXPOPRAG, Dilceu Scapinello, the main premise of the event in 2018 is to work on the issue of connection and interactivity between people, in addition to showing the importance of management for strengthening business. “We want to bring knowledge to the public so that the market becomes increasingly technical and, consequently, everyone improves the level of efficiency in the provision of services,” he argued.
Under the theme “Together, Connecting People, Management and Results”, the congress that year also had different dynamics in relation to previous editions. Sérgio Bocalini, executive vice president of APRAG, explained that the three days of the event had totally different themes. To facilitate public participation, the registration option was made available for each day separately. “With this, the interested party can purchase tickets for the debates of greatest interest,” he added.
Already in the technical courses, instead of working in the traditional way with an approach in biology, behavior and integrated pest control, the option was to promote the discussion of pest control in chains. “The intention is to debate the issue broadly in the pharmaceutical industry, in the food and beverage production chain and also in retail trade,” Bocalini revealed.
Another positive factor of EXPOPRAG was the participation, once again, of the Federal Council of Biology. With this, the event continued the meetings with biologists involved in pest control, promoting academic discussion among peers. There were also other parallel events in the sector, as well as space reserved for women. "In the first editions there were few women representing the sector and participating in the event. The creation of this special environment has the idea of valuing them and encouraging more women to develop activities and new techniques for the sector," stated the executive vice president of APRAG.
In general, the executive highlighted that EXPOPRAG will have the role of stimulating companies to produce knowledge and make it available not only for the sector, but also for society. "We are sure that the event will be a great catalyst of knowledge and business for the entire urban vector and pest control chain. Expectations are the best possible," concluded Sérgio Bocalini.
